Typhoon bug dominates the Wrath beta
Remember a few content patches ago, the PTR had a fun little bug where Warlocks had the spell effect of Seed of Corruption castable rather than the spell itself? So Warlocks had an infinite range, no cooldown, no global cooldown, mana free, instant Seed of Corruption? Remember the chaos that caused? Well, guess what? It happened again!
No, no, it wasn’t Seed of Corruption this time. It happened with the new Druid spell Typhoon. Specifically Typhoon Rank 5. It’s already been hotfixed, so don’t bother trying it now- you missed out. If you want to see exactly what people were doing with this spell, just check out the video above.
I had a chance to experience a little of this firsthand, and it was impressive, to say the least. A Moonkin rolling up to an enemy faction’s town and laying waste is just hilarious to see, though not so much after the tenth time. Remember, this thing didn’t even trigger the Global Cooldown. Druids were running around with macros that cast this spell ten or twenty times simultaneously. Nothing could even hope to survive, especially when you got a bunch of them together. Balance buffed, Resto nerfed in 8962 I
Druids still continue to evolve fairly rapidly. It makes sense that they would be undergoing a lot of change, because more than most other classes, Druids are almost like three classes in one (three and a half, when you consider how strongly they’ve been trying to differentiate bear ferals from cat ferals).
There are a lot of changes in this latest beta build; I’m not going to list them all, just the ones that seem most interesting to me. For the full story go take a peek at MMO-Champion.
· Balance:
· Barkskin is now usable in all forms. The primary use I envision for this is bear form, which has suffered from a lack of “oh snap” buttons for a while now. On a one-minute cooldown, it actually adds up to more mitigation over time than Shield Wall, although of course it’s less mitigation at any one time, which is what SW is really used for. Still, good to have.

And this was all with existing players on a brand new server (Cairne opened on Feb. 27; transfers first opened on Aug. 27)?
None of our members were transfers. We killed Illidan six weeks after the guild was formed and a full month before transfers to the server opened.
Tell us about the learning process.
On raid nights, I believed there was no such thing as a wasted wipe. What I mean is that every time we didn’t kill a boss, there was something to be learned about the encounter — something that was done wrong or could have been done better, either by an individual or as a group. This process of finding the problems and weeding them out, in combination with a determined raid group and a fairly heavy schedule, is what led to rapid progression. Everything was not perfect, and several of the members we recruited early on were eventually weeded out due to poor performance. However, due to the number of applications we received, we were eventually able to form our core group that would remain together and push to Illidan.

Breakfast Topic: Why is this hard?
I should be more specific: why is this hard for me? Because for lots of people, leveling a hunter is the easiest thing in the world, to hear them tell it. It’s a super easy class that has high DPS and a tanking pet to keep it alive. I should be blowing through the levels.
Instead, I’ve just recently managed to get my draenei hunter, who I created back when TBC launched, to level twenty eight. In the time since I’ve created this character I leveled my original warrior to 70, created a new draenei warrior and leveled him to 70, and leveled a draenei shaman to 70, plus went back and leveled two horde (warrior and shaman) to 70 and created a BE paladin and got him to 65. I leveled a paladin to 65 faster than I could level a hunter to 28! What is this, bizarro world? My orc and night elf warriors both hit 70 and I created them more or less as alts to play with RL friends on different servers, which means they get played once a month at most, and yet, here is my hunter, a year into the expansion (over a year, in fact) and I am just now heading into the 30’s. Blood Sport: Cleave carnage
So. Arenas. How have your Arena campaigns been coming along? Lately, we’ve been encountering a lot of melee teams in our bracket. Melee has been enjoying a rise in popularity since Season 3, when Armor Penetration made its debut in Arena gear. Of course, with Armor Penetration stats maintaining status quo across the board in Season 4 while Armor values went up, this has become less of a factor. Nonetheless, the melee pain train continues to chug along, with more double melee teams having a strong showing in 3v3 and of course the popular triple melee Cleave setup in 5v5. For the most part, any team comp with two or more physical DPS classes is technically a Cleave team.
Melee in 5v5 was popularized by Serennia in his Warrior / Rogue / Enh. Shaman and 2-healer set-up which he tried to dub ‘Trifecta’. Trifecta never stuck, of course, so Cleave became a more popular term coming both from the Warrior ability and the fact that a target descended upon by multiple melee will feel like she’s being cleaved in half. Hands-on with Inscription in the Wrath Beta
By now you’ve heard of inscription, the new trade skill coming with Wrath of the Lich King. We’ve already given you a few sneak peeks, looking at glyphs, enchantment scrolls, and other beta insights. This time, though we had a chance to fiddle with Inscription directly, on the Beta servers themselves. The trade skill is most obviously only in the very first stages of implementation, but there’s still enough to play around with to get an idea of how it will all work once things go live.

To start off with, we needed to do a little running. There’s no inscription trainers to be found in Dalaran or any of the capitals. We found one in Vengeance Landing, so it seems likely that Alliance could find one in Valgarde as well. However, there are no Inscription suppliers nearby, so you’ll still have to run to Dalaran to get the Scribe Tools and parchment you need for most recipes.
It’s probably a given that that’ll change for the better as we get closer to live, but for now it’s a pain. You’ll probably want to go buy the Scribe Tools and stock up

On Statistics and Gear choices
If you’re having trouble figuring out how to figure upgrades, there’s actually a very simple rule of thumb: Death Knight gear needs are very close to Warrior needs. DPS Warrior plate will do just fine for any Death Knight, so if you can remember nothing else, just remember: Go for the Warrior gear.
To explain it further, don’t be tricked by the Death Knight’s arsenal of spell effects, disease DoTs, and nukes. None of them use spellpower. It’s completely useless. Instead, all of our spell-like damage works off of AP. The one exception comes off critical strike rating, as spells still appear to use spell critical strike rating instead of melee critical strike rating. Luckily, this isn’t as much of a problem as it could be, since critical strike rating now applies to both spell and physical critical strike rating at once.
So what you’re looking for primarily is Strength, which provides the customary 2 AP per hit, for your DPS. Agility will provide some nice melee critical strike rating and dodge, but is probably not as good as pure critical strike rating, which will provide critical strike potential for more

RoleCraft: What Level Is Your RP?
“Hail, adventurers! I am Stormcrow Stardust, herald of the Drunken Boxers, extending our invitation for any and all interested to come and join our steadfastly growing ranks. We are primarily a heavy RP guild focused on all forms of military conquest and intoxicated debauchery, with our own Vent server, and IC and OOC channels in game. Oh, and we have pie! Whisper me with your questions and for an invite!”
That’s merely an example of something I see at least once every game session in every MMORPG I play, either in game or on the message boards. It’s a guild invite, and that’s the general format they tend to take, at least as I see them on RP realms and from roleplayers. For the most part, such invites read and sound okay, with just enough information to hopefully spark the interest of any players looking to enlist their character into a guild. However, there is one vital piece that I see missing, or in dire need of a better explanation, and that is the question of rating RP.

WoW: Wrath of the Lich King Lorebook Update
The official lorebook for Wrath of the Lich King has been updated. This time readers find out about The Nexus:
The blue Dragon Aspect, Malygos, was charged ages ago by the titans as the guardian of magic. More than ten millennia ago, he watched in horror as Deathwing all but wiped out the blue flight. Maddened by grief, Malygos withdrew to his lair and paid little heed to the rest of the world, emerging only when it finally seemed possible to avenge Deathwing’s terrible crime.
Only in recent times did Malygos fully return to his senses. Upon reviving, he quickly assessed the state of magical affairs in Azeroth and reached the grim conclusion that magic was running amok throughout the world. He blamed this dangerous development on the mortal races and their reckless pursuit of magical power.

I have never seen WoW as “bad for the industry” but yes it did hurt the industry in some way, which you have pointed out in your first paragraph citing the discontinued development of Marvel Universe Online. But as you’ve said, there are more ‘blessings’ behind all these and I strongly agree with you there.
I said on my blog about the WoW Minis product coming out this year, and I said there that I hope Blizzard will revolutionized table-top games with action figures. Competition is good, and here in the Philippines, I only see Warhammer in that space, once WoW Minis comes in the playing field, who knows what new improvements we will see. Then there is the WoW TCG entering the TCG space, same thing happened, its presence was felt and it produced improvements and more intense competition in the TCG space – which is good as we all can see today.
Same with WoW in the MMO subscription space. 10 million subscribers is really daunting, but if we will really analyze it, what does Blizzard meant by “subscribers”? Are these active users? (in other words paying customers) or are these the total of accounts? (it is still a
